Cats are Class 3A District 7 Champs!
The
Carlisle boys’ track and field squad rolled up 147 points to win the Class 3A
District 7 championship. The Wildcats had 13 events that qualified for the
state meet. The top two place-winners in every event automatically qualified
for the state track and field meet that is held on May 21st-23rd.
The remaining 8 best times/marks across the state also qualified in each event

The Cats were led by Tyrell Erb in the individual event qualifiers. Tyrell Erb was the district champion in the 400m dash in 49.85 and qualified for his 4th state track meet in this event. He also finished 2nd in the 200m dash (23.19) to qualify for the second straight year in that event. Fellow senior Henry Sanders finished 2nd in the 400m hurdles (56.19) to qualify as did Josh Hagedorn in the 110m high hurdles with his 2nd place finish (15.68). Senior Andrew Smith qualified with his second place finish in the 100m dash (11.48) and freshman Max Goodhue finished as district runner-up in the long jump (20’4.25”) to also qualify for the state meet.
The Wildcats also had good success in the relays with four events automatically qualifying for the state meet. The shuttle hurdle team of sophomore Dallas Wright, junior Peyton Stephens, Hagedorn, and Sanders won themselves a district title in 58.59 seconds. The 4x200m relay team was also district champs in 1:31.81. Members of that squad were Sanders, senior Noah Smith, junior Joe Crowley, and A. Smith. The quartet of senior Nolan Vollstedt, Sanders, Crowley, and Erb defended their district title from a year ago to finish first in the 4x400m relay in 3:26.53.
Other individuals who qualified for the state meet through at-large times/marks include Josh Hagedorn who cleared 6’0” in the high jump to finish 3rd. Grant Tice ran 11.61 in the 100 to finish 3rd and also qualified as did Sophomore JJ Orput who ran a career best time in the 1600 to finish 4th in 4:44.90.
The 4x800m relay team of senior Chad Carter, freshman Ben Rowray, freshman Nic Baack, and junior Luke Sinclair ran 8:45.07 to place third. Dallas Wright finished 4th in the 400m hurdles (career best time of 57.98) while Goodhue brought home 4th in the 110m high hurdles in 16.23. Sinclair also ran a career best time of 4:53.65 to finish 5th in the 1600. The distance medley relay team of junior Kire Seskis, junior Brian Robertson, Goodhue, and Baack finished 4th in 3:53.23. Seskis finished 5th in the long jump with a career best of 19-00.50. Carter finished 5th in the 800 in 2:11.15 while fellow senior Trevor Carra finished 8th in 2:16.89. Rowray finished 7th in the 400 in 55.60. Junior Anthony Hansen placed 6th in the shot put with a career best of 42’9”. Senior Luke Oja finished 7th in the shot (42’06”) and 8th in the discus (109’6.75”).

Cats are RRC Champs for 1st time since 1988
The
Carlisle boys’ track and field squad rolled up 145 points on Saturday, May 9th
at Ballard High School en route to the Raccoon River Conference Championship.
This was the first conference title for the boys’ track and field program since
1988. Carlisle outdistanced Carroll (100 points) and Boone (93 points) in the
eight-team field (other teams were Winterset, Bondurant-Farrar, Perry, Ballard,
and ADM)
The Wildcats won seven events and were led by seniors Tyrell Erb and Henry Sanders. Erb ran 50.09 to win his third straight conference title in the 400m dash and he also won the 200m dash in 22.80. Erb anchored the conference championship winning 4x400m relay team in 3:30.84. Other members of the 4x400m relay squad were senior Nolan Vollstedt, Sanders, and junior Joe Crowley. Erb also anchored the runner-up 4x100m relay squad in 44.86. Other members of that unit were seniors KC McMullen, Noah Smith, and Nathan Gerlach. Sanders won the conference title in the 400m hurdles in a time of 56.66. Sanders also anchored the first place shuttle hurdle relay team that finished in 58.59. Other members of that unit were sophomore Dallas Wright, senior Josh Hagedorn, and Crowley. Sanders ran the 400m dash for the first time outdoors all season and finished second in 50.48 seconds. Freshman Max Goodhue came up huge for the Cats by winning the long jump with a career best jump of 20’4.5”. Andrew Smith won the 100m dash in 11.38 in his first race back after returning from an injury.
The Cats had numerous third and fourth place finishes at the meet as well. Sophomore JJ Orput ran 10:28.99 (career best) to finish 3rd in the 3200 and he also finished 4th in the 1600 (4:54.92). Dallas Wright finished 3rd in the 400m hurdles and the 4x200m relay team of junior Peyton Stephens, junior Brian Robertson, Noah Smith, and Crowley also finished 3rd. Hagedorn finished 3rd in the 110m HH (15.74) and 4th in the high jump (6’0”). Senior Chad Carter came through with a huge 3rd place finish in the 800m run (2:11.58) and he also led off the fourth place 4x800m relay team (8:42.45). Other members of that foursome were freshman Ben Rowray, freshman Nic Baack, and senior Trevor Carra. Senior Luke Oja just missed a career best in the shot put (45’9.75”) to finish 4th. He also finished 6th in the discus (120’03”). Junior Grant Tice raced to a 4th place finish in the 100m dash in 11.81 seconds. Other top 6 finishers included Goodhue in the 110m high hurdles (6th in 16.39) and the distance medley relay squad of junior Kire Seskis, Peyton Stephens, Goodhue, and Rowray who finished 6th in 3:57.22.

CATS 3RD AT PCM, 2ND AT DCG
The Carlisle boys
track and field squad recently finished 3rd at the PCM Invitational
only a mere point away from 2nd place. CMB won the meet with 177 total points
Henry Sanders was the only
individual event winner for the Cats with the win in the 200m dash. The 4x100m
relay team (McMullen-N. Smith-Gerlach-Erb), the 4x200m relay team(Sanders-N.
Smith-Robertson-Erb), and the 4x400m relay team
(Wright-Robertson-Stephens-Vollstedt) all picked up victories. The shuttle
hurdle relay team of Andrew Black, Dallas Wright, Max Goodhue, and Josh
Hagedorn finished 2nd as did Peyton Stephens in the 100m dash and
Goodhue in the long jump. Grant Tice took 3rd in the 100m dash to
round out the top 3 place-winners.
The Carlisle boys track and field squad just missed winning their sixth
meet title on Friday, May 1st. Gilbert won the title with 141 points
while the Cats finished 2nd with 137.5 points. DCG was third with 92
in the ten team meet.
The Cats got two wins
from senior Tyrell Erb in the 200m dash (23.49) and the 400m dash (50.76). Erb
also ran on the second place 4x400m squad (3:31.10) with freshman Max Goodhue,
junior Joe Crowley, and senior Nolan Vollstedt. Josh Hagedorn won the 110m high
hurdles in a career best time of 15.70. Senior Luke Oja had a huge night in the
throws with a career best of 126’6 in the discus and 45’7 in the shot put to
finish as runner up in both events. Henry Sanders ran to a second place finish
in the 400m hurdles in a career best time of 55.04. Goodhue finished 2nd
in the long jump (19’8) while Peyton Stephens finished 2nd in the
100m dash. Grant Tice came in 4th
in the 100m dash as did Noah Smith in the 200m dash. Sophomore JJ Orput finished
3rd in the 1600 (4:49.17) while junior Luke Sinclair finished 4th
(4:55.31) in the same events. Dallas Wright also ran to a 4th place
finish in the 400m hurdles. Junior
Andrew Hill finished 7th in the discus with a career best throw of
111’10. Ethan Wright finished tied for 8th in the high jump and JJ
Orput also had an 8th place finish in the 400.
The boys shuttle
hurdle team continued to run well as they finished in 59.06 which was new meet
record (Crowley-Hagedorn-Dallas Wright-Sanders). The 4x800m relay team ran
their fastest time of the season to finish 3rd in 8:42.20 (Chad
Carter-Ben Rowray-Luke Sinclair-JJ Orput). The 4x100m relay squad of KC
McMullen-Noah Smith-Nathan Gerlach-Stephens finished 3rd in
45.30. The 4x200m relay squad of Kire
Seskis-Noah Smith-Brian Robertson-Joe Crowley ran 1:34.99 to finish 3rd.
The distance medley squad of Seskis-Stephens-Rowray-Carter finished 7th
in 3:59.26.
The Cats had JV entries in eight events as
well where they finished in the top 4 in all eight events. Brayden Utter won
the 100 while E. Wright finished 3rd. Dallas Wright and Max Goodhue
each ran the 110m high hurdles for the first time and finished 1st
and 2nd in 16.7 and 16.71. Freshman Joe Frese finished 2nd
in the 1600 in a career best time of 5:06.69. Fellow freshman Nate Mortimer
finished 2nd in the long jump at 17’2.5”. The 4x100m relay team of
Utter-E. Wright-Chase Shannahan-Gabe McCaughey won in 46.86 seconds while the
4x200m relay team of Mortimer-Adam Van Gorp-Shannahan-McCaughey finished 2nd
in 1:41.52. Hanson finished 4th
in the discus (98’) and Hill finished 3rd in the JV shot put
(34’3”).
CATS DOMINATE AT HOME MEET
The Carlisle
Wildcats boys’ track and field team held their first home meet in 3 seasons and
they did not disappoint as they rolled up 164 team points to outdistance
second-place Harlan (76 points) for the team title in the 14-team Wildcat
Relays. Senior Night was a big success as our 13 seniors accounted for 106 of
the team’s points.
Seniors Tyrell Erb, Henry Sanders, Andrew Smith, and Josh Hagedorn led the way with several top finishes. Erb won the 400m dash (50.08), the 200m dash (22.92), and ran the second leg of the first-place 4x400m relay squad. Sanders won the 110m high hurdles (15.58), the 400m hurdles (56.93), and was the anchor of the championship and school record-breaking shuttle hurdle squad that finished in 58.49. Smith won the 100m dash in a blazing time of 11.15, finished 2nd in the 200m dash to teammate Erb (23.02), anchored the winning 4x100m relay squad (44.75), and also placed fifth in the long jump with a career best of 19-05.50. Hagedorn led off with a great leg on the shuttle hurdle relay squad, finished 3rd in the 110m high hurdles in a career best time of 15.72, and also finished 4th in the high jump clearing 5’10”.
Other top performers included sophomore JJ Orput who finished 2nd in the 3200 (career best time of 10:30.36) and 3rd in the 1600 (4:54.15). Freshman Max Goodhue scratched on his first three attempts in the long jump but on his 4th and final attempt he soared 19-10.5 to finish tied for second. Sophomore Dallas Wright finished 2nd in the 400m hurdles in a career best time of 58.40. Senior Luke Oja finished 5th in the shot put in 45-05 while fellow throwing mate Anthony Hanson threw a personal best of 41-06. Chad Carter finished 7th in the 800 (2:12.49) while Nathan Gerlach finished 8th in the 100 (11.89).
The 4x400m relay squad finished in the top spot in 3:30.24 (Vollstedt-Erb-Crowley-Sanders). The 4x100m relay squad of McMullen, N. Smith, Gerlach, and A. Smith also ran to victory in 44.75. The 4x200m relay squad of Seskis-N. Smith-Robertson-Crowley ran collectively their best time of the season to finish 2nd in 1:34.40. The 4x800m relay team of Carter-Wright-Baack-Rowray ran 8:48.20 to finish 4th. The distance medley team of Shannahan-Van Gorp-Goodhue-Rowray ran 3:55.21 to finish 7th. The JV shuttle hurdle squad of Black-Goodhue-Emberlin-Wright finished 3rd overall in 1:02.82.

Cats Compete at Drake Relays
The Carlisle
Wildcat boys’ track and field squad qualified six events for the Drake Relays
that were held on the blue oval at Drake Stadium on April 24th and
25th.
Senior Henry Sanders led things off for the Cats on Friday at 8:15 with the 110m high hurdle prelims. Sanders finished in 15.66 to finish 23rd out of 32 competitors. Sanders had the 8th fastest time in 3A in the prelims. Senior Andrew Smith, who came into the Drake Relays with the 28th seed, ran the 8th fastest time of the prelims (11.18) to qualify for the finals. Smith finished 8th in the finals later Friday morning in 11.31 seconds which was the 2nd fastest for 3A competitors behind third place winner Tanner Dunkin of Knoxville.
Later in the day on Friday the school record holding 4x200m relay squad of Sanders, Smith, Joe Crowley, and Tyrell Erb finished in 1:31.65 which was good for 19th place out of 24. The Wildcats were the lone 3A team in the field (3 others were 2A, remainder were all 4A). The all-senior 4x100m team of KC McMullen, Noah Smith, A. Smith, and Erb ran 44.59 to finish 40th out of 80 teams overall and 5th fastest of the 3A competitors. To cap off the night on Friday, the 4x400m relay squad, who set the school record last year at the state meet, ran 3:28.56 to finish 16th out of 24 (3rd fastest in 3A). Members of the 4x400m team were Crowley, Sanders, Nolan Vollstedt, and Erb.
On Saturday the Cats returned to a very soggy track and 44 degree temperatures for the shuttle hurdle relay prelims. The quartet of Josh Hagedorn, Joe Crowley, Peyton Stephens, and Henry Sanders qualified with the 14th (out of 16) seed. However, under the tutelage of hurdle coach Brian Keeney, the foursome blazed to a 4th place time and a new school record (59.09) in the prelims to qualify for the last spot of the 4-team final. Waukee, Linn-Mar, and Mt. Pleasant proved to be too much for the Wildcats in the finals as they finished fourth with a time of 58.27 but were disqualified due to a runner leaving early on the exchange.
The Cats are very busy during the remaining three weeks of the season as they have four regular meets along with the Raccoon River Conference meet and the district (state qualifying) meet before the state meet occurs on May 23rd and 24th.

Waukee, Linn-Mar, and Mt. Pleasant proved to be too much for the Wildcats in the finals as they finished fourth with a time of 58.27 but were disqualified due to a runner leaving early on the exchange.
The Cats are very busy during the remaining three weeks of the season as they have four regular meets along with the Raccoon River Conference meet and the district (state qualifying) meet before the state meet occurs on May 23rd and 24th.

The 4x100m relay team of senior KC McMullen, senior Noah Smith, Andrew Smith, and Erb will run at 6pm. 80 teams qualify in the 4x100m relay prelims. Friday night will end with the 4x400m relay team of Crowley, Sanders, senior Nolan Vollstedt, and Erb running in the prelims at 8:46pm. This foursome placed 4th in the state meet last spring and also own the school record in this event.
Saturday will kick off bright and early with the shuttle hurdle relay squad running in the prelims at 8:15am. Cats Win Ballard Classic
The Carlisle
varsity boys’ track and field squad braved the windy and cold conditions in
Huxley to win their fifth meet of the season by accumulating 149 points at the
eight-team Ballard Classic. Gilbert finished as runner ups with 119 points
while DCG finished third with 100 points.
Meet winners include Max Goodhue in the long jump (19-11, career best), Andrew Smith in the 100 (11.13) and 200 (22.86), JJ Orput in the 3200 (10:43.99), Henry Sanders in the 110m HH (15.45), and the distance medley relay squad of Peyton Stephens, Joe Crowley, Nolan Vollstedt, and Henry Sanders (3:51.96). Also bringing home first place medals were the shuttle hurdle relay squad of Crowley, Josh Hagedorn, Stephens, and Sanders (60.53) and the 4x100m relay squad of KC McMullen, Noah Smith, Andrew Smith, and Tyrell Erb (44.92

Hagedorn finished 2nd in the 110m high hurdles (16.06). Third place finishes went to Luke Oja in the shot put (43-00.75), Luke Sinclair in the 1600 (4:58.22), Dallas Wright in the 400m hurdles (58.22) and the 4x800m relay squad of Chad Carter, Trevor Carra, Ben Rowray, and Luke Sinclair (9:01.32).

Cats Finish 2nd at Chariton
After winning the Norwalk team title the night before, the Wildcat
varsity boys track and field team finished in second place at the Charger
Relays in Chariton with 103 team points. The Albia Blue Demons won the eight
team meet with 142 team points.
One highlight of the evening was watching the quartet of senior Henry Sanders, senior Andrew Smith, junior Joe Crowley, and senior Tyrell Erb break the 4x200m relay school record in a time of 1:31.22. This was the first time this foursome had run together in this event this season. The old record had stood since 2011 when Austin Lister, Jeremy Flaws, Brady Roland, and Nate Wilmes captured the CHS record in a time of 1:31.58.
Other highlight on the night included another win the shuttle hurdle relay with two sophomores, a freshman, and a senior. Dallas Wright, Andrew Black, Max Goodhue, and Josh Hagedorn won the event in 62.71 seconds. Another first place finish for the Wildcats included a dramatic come from behind victory in the 4x400m relay from last year’s school record setting foursome of junior Joe Crowley, and seniors Henry Sanders, Nolan Vollstedt, and Tyrell Erb in 3:26.91 seconds. This foursome re-broke their own school record last year at the state meet in 3:25.02.
The 4x800m relay team finished 2nd (Rowray-Carra-Frese-Baack) as did the 4x100m relay team (McMullen-N. Smith-Gerlach-Seskis). Dallas Wright captured 3rd in the 400m lows in 58.81 while Max Goodhue finished 4th in 1:01.42. The distance medley squad of Gabe McCaughey-Brian Robertson-Trevor Carra-Rowray picked up a 3rd place finish. Other 4th place finishers included McMullen in the 100, Josh Hagedorn in the 110m HH, and Van Gorp in the high jump.
The Wildcat return to action on 4/21 at Ballard before competing in the Drake Relays on Friday 4/24 and Saturday 4/25.

4th Meet Title for the Cats!
For the fourth time this season in five outdoor meets, the Carlisle
boys track and field squad walked away with a trophy. The Cats accumulated 150
points to outdistance Boone (93) and seven other teams in the nine-team Tom
Fish Co-Ed Invitational.
Highlights of the meet included the Wildcat hurdlers dominating all 3 events. Sophomore JJ Orput also picked up the win in the 1600 in 4:47.67. The 4x800m relay team of Chad Carter-Trevor Carra-Ben Rowray-Orput finished 2nd in a season best time of 8:46.70. Senior Josh Hagedorn tied a career best of 6-0 in the high jump to finish 2nd. The 4x400m team of Nolan Vollstedt-Brian Robertson-Adam Van Gorp-Wright finished second in 3:36.47. Junior Luke Sinclair set a personal record in the 3200m run to finish 3rd in 10:33.21.

finish to win the ADM Hugh Norman Co-Ed Relays. The Cats finished with 175
points followed by DCG with 123 and Norwalk with 85 in the eight team
meet.

Sophomore JJ Orput was a double winner as well sweeping the 3200m run (personal best of 10:36.6) and the 800m run (2:13.15). Cats win 2nd Meet of the Season!
The Carlisle Wildcats boys track and field team had nine event
champions and three runner-ups en route to the Winterset Husky Relays team
title with 160 points on Friday April 3rd. The second and third
place teams finished with 67 and 61 points respectively on this brisk and windy
night in Madison County.
Senior Henry Sanders continued his winning streak by picking up three first place medals in the 110m high hurdles (15.59) the shuttle hurdle relay in 60.76 (along with Joe Crowley, Josh Hagedorn, and Peyton Stephens), and in the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:37.26 (along with Crowley, Nolan Vollstedt, and Adam Van Gorp). Andrew Smith won the 200m dash in a career best time of 23.0 and finished 2nd in the 100m dash in 11.32 seconds. Senior Luke Oja tied for first in the shot put with a heave of 45-9.5 to go along with his fifth place finish in the discus. Other winners on the night included JJ Orput in the 1600 (4:55.18), the 4x100m relay team of seniors KC McMullen, Noah Smith, Nathan Gerlach, and Hagedorn (46.07), the 4x200m relay team of sophomore Gabe McCaughey, N. Sophomore Andrew Black finished 4th in the 400m hurdles in 64.37 while junior Chase Shannahan finished 5th in the 200 (12.04), the 4x800m relay team of Orput, Wright, Rowray, and Carra 5th, Sinclair 6th in the 800 (2:16) and Stephens 6th in 200 (24.3).
Senior Henry Sanders continued his winning streak by picking up three first place medals in the 110m high hurdles (15.59) the shuttle hurdle relay in 60.76 (along with Joe Crowley, Josh Hagedorn, and Peyton Stephens), and in the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:37.26 (along with Crowley, Nolan Vollstedt, and Adam Van Gorp). Andrew Smith won the 200m dash in a career best time of 23.0 and finished 2nd in the 100m dash in 11.32 seconds. Senior Luke Oja tied for first in the shot put with a heave of 45-9.5 to go along with his fifth place finish in the discus. Other winners on the night included JJ Orput in the 1600 (4:55.18), the 4x100m relay team of seniors KC McMullen, Noah Smith, Nathan Gerlach, and Hagedorn (46.07), the 4x200m relay team of sophomore Gabe McCaughey, N. Smith, junior Kire Seskis, and Crowley (1:38.74). Senior Tyrell Erb continued his dominance in the 400m dash by winning his only event of the night.

Cats win Nevada Cub Relays!
For the 2nd time in 4 days the Wildcat boys track and field
squad loaded the bus ready to go face some stiff competition. However, instead
of coming up just short in the team race, the Cats ran, threw, and jumped to
the team championship of the Nevada Cubs Relays with 373.5 points (Nevada used
a “true team scoring” concept at this meet).
Ankeny Centennial placed second with 357 points followed by Ft. Dodge
with 340.5, Carroll 245.5, Boone 244.5, Knoxville 236.5, Ballard 233.5, and
Mason City with 224. If scoring the meet using tradition scoring the Cats would
have still been victorious with 142 points followed by Ankeny Centennial with
119 and Ft. Dodge with 115.
Senior Henry Sanders had a fantastic night winning all three of his events. Sanders hurdled to a time of 15.46 in the 110m high’s and finished the 400m hurdles in a winning time of 56.75. Both are career bests for Sanders. Henry also paired with senior Josh Hagedorn and juniors Joe Crowley and Peyton Stephens to win the shuttle hurdle in 60.2 seconds. This resets the school record from Saturday for this quartet. Senior Ty Erb got in on the first place finishes by running to the title in 50.67 seconds in the 400m dash and placing 2nd in the 200m dash in 23.27. Max Goodhue rounded out the first place finishes by winning the long jump with a top jump of 19’1”.

Cats finish 2nd behind WDM Valley at Simpson Co-Ed
The
Carlisle boys track and field squad kicked off their outdoor season by placing
second in the Simpson Co-Ed Classic that was ran on Saturday 3/28. The Cats
accumulated 133 points while the WDM Valley Tigers took the meet title home
with 143 points. Rounding out the team scores were Ankeny Centennial 95,
Indianola 82, Southeast Polk 71, Dowling Catholic 70, Des Moines Roosevelt 63,
and Norwalk with 43.
The Cats crowned 3 event champions on the day to go along with 3 runner-up finishes. The shuttle hurdle team of seniors Henry Sanders and Josh Hagedorn partnered with juniors Peyton Stephens and Joe Crowley to set a new school record (60.34) en route to the meet championship. This same quartet ran 60.55 at last year’s state meet to place 13th overall. Hagedorn also won the high jump by tying the best jump of his career (6’0”). Senior Tyrell Erb was crowned the champion of the 400m dash where he blazed the track in 50.82. Freshman Max Goodhue finished 2nd in the long jump by soaring 19’6”. Sanders placed 2nd in the 110m high hurdles in a time of 15.53. The 4x400m relay team of Sanders, Crowley, Nolan Vollstedt, and Erb ran 3:28.55 to finish as runner up’s.
The Wildcats also got numerous 3rd-5th place finishes. Vollstedt ran a great 400 to finish 3rd in 53.49, Erb finished 3rd in the 200 in 23.64, Goodhue 3rd in the 400m hurdles (61.17), and the 4x100m relay team of Andrew Smith, Noah Smith, Kire Seskis, and Grant Tice (44.75). Andrew Smith ran 11.38 in the 100 to finish 4th while Luke Oja threw a career best of 45-04 in the shot put to also finish 4th. The Distance Medley team of Gabe McCaughey, Stephens, Adam Van Gorp, and Trevor Carra ran 3:54.18 to also place 4th. Sophomore JJ Orput ran a career best 4:46.29 to finish 4th in the 1600 while fellow sophomore Dallas Wright finished 4th in the 400m hurdles (61.61).
Placing 5th included the 4x200m relay squad of McCaughey, Stephens, N. Smith, and Seskis (1:36.78), Crowley in the 200 (24.01), and the 4x800m squad of freshmen Nic Baack and Ben Rowray along with sophomores Orput and Wright (8:57.50). Sixth place finishers included A. Smith in the long jump (18-10), Hagedorn in the 110m HH (16.93) and Carter in the 1600 (4:54.56).
We were also able to run JV relay teams as well. The JV shuttle hurdle relay team of Dallas Wright, Andrew Black, Max Goodhue, and Anethon Thiravong ran 66.34 to finish 1st. The 4x100m relay team of Gabe McCaughey, KC McMullen, Chase Shannahan, and Brayden Utter also got first in 46.84 while the same quartet finished 4th in the 4x200m relay in 1:41.24. The Distance Medley relay squad of Anethon Thiravong, Nate Mortimer, Black, and Cutlar Palar finished 3rd in 4:08.14. The 4x400m relay team of Ben Rowray, Palar, Mortimer, and Chad Carter finished 4th in 3:58.50.
Carlisle will travel to the Nevada Cubs Relays on 3/31 followed by a trip to Winterset for the Husky Invitational on Friday, April 3rd.

Central College on March 20th, the Carlisle boys track and field

were Cedar Rapids Kennedy 72 points, Pella with 68 points, Iowa City West 60, West
Burlington-Notre Dame 57, and Carlisle with 51. Des Moines Lincoln finished
sixth with 40 points followed by Mt Pleasant with 30.
The Wildcats crowned a meet champion in the 55m dash where senior Andrew Smith ran 6.52 to outdistance over 220 other runners for the title. Other top ten performances included senior Henry Sanders finishing 2nd in the 55m high hurdles (8.02), sophomore JJ Orput 3rd in the 1600 (4:49.98), Grant Tice 4th in the 55m dash (6.73), Tyrell Erb 4th in the 200 (23.68), Smith 6th in the 200 (23.76), freshman Max Goodhue 6th in the 400 (55.48), and Goodhue and Smith tied for 10th in the long jump (18-7). The 4x400m relay team of Sanders, Joe Crowley, Nolan Vollstedt, and Erb finished 3rd (3:38) while the 4x800m relay team of Chad Carter, Nic Baack, Trevor Carra, and Ben Rowray finished 6th (9:11.31).

CHS BOYS TRACK AND FIELD COMPETES AT ISU INDOOR
Several members of the
Carlisle High School boys varsity track and field team competed at the 2015 ISU
High School Boys Track meet on March 18th. This meet had over 80
teams participating from the largest in the state (West Des Moines Valley)
clear down the line to Class 1A competitors from the likes of Lenox and GMG
(Green Mountain-Garwin).
Senior Henry Sanders had a great night as he finished 3rd out of 83 competitors in the 60m high hurdles in 8.63 seconds. Sanders also finished 8th out of 102 runners in the 400m dash (53.07) and 22nd out of 62 high jumpers. Senior Andrew Smith long jumped in a meet for the first time in his career and jumped 19-04.25 to finish 11th out of 70 jumpers. Junior Grant Tice had a strong night finishing 16th out of 115 in the 60m dash (7.39). Senior Nolan Vollstedt running a strong race to finish 21st out of 102 participants in the 400m dash (54.72 seconds). Junior Adam Van Gorp finished tied for 21st in the high jump where he cleared 5’ 6” in his first time high jumping at a meet in his career. Junior Joe Crowley finished 26th out of 83 competitors in the 60m high hurdles (9.40).
A few other individual performances included Junior Kire Seskis long jumping 17-9.25 to finish 29th out of 70. Junior JJ Orput ran 10:56.31 in the 3200 to finish 31st out of 86 runners. Senior Luke Oja finished 35th out of 100 shot putters with a toss of 41’ 11.25” while fellow thrower Anthony Hansen took home 35th throwing 39’ 09.75”. Freshman Nic Baack knocked almost 45 seconds off of his 1600m time from a year ago to finish 54th out of 113 runners (5:15.71).
The Cats also got strong relay efforts as well. The 4x100m relay team of Andrew Smith, Kire Seskis, Nathan Gerlach, and Tice ran a clean race and finished 5th out of 75 teams in 45.47 seconds. We were also able to run a second 4x100m relay where Peyton Stephens (junior), Dallas Wright (soph), Crowley, and Vollstedt ran a very solid time of 46.87 to finish 25th out of 75. The 4x400m relay team of Wright, senior Trevor Carra, freshman Ben Rowray, and Crowley finished in 3:45.18 to finish 20th out of 51 teams. The 4x800m relay team saw two seniors (Chad Carter and Carra) team with two freshmen (Rowray and Baack) to finish 25th out of 51 teams in 9:08.21. The distance medley squad of Stephens, Wright, Van Gorp, and Orput finished 31st out of 49 in a time of 4:07.16.
The Cats have one more indoor meet at Central College on Friday, March 20th before opening their outdoor season on March 24th at Simpson College against all 4A schools at the Simpson College Invitational.

CHS Boys Track and Field Season Preview
The Carlisle Wildcat Boy’s track
and field team will look to improve on a successful 2014 campaign by relying on
13 seniors and 20 returning letter-winners. Eight of the top ten scorers along with 85% of the team’s scoring return
from a year ago.
Seniors Tyrell Erb and Henry
Sanders lead the way after being the Wildcats leading scorers in in 2014 (301.5
points combined). The Wildcats finished
3rd in the Raccoon River Conference last season and qualified 5
events for the state track and field meet.
Erb is a three-time state qualifier in the 400m dash including a 4th
place finish last year. Erb also
anchored the Wildcats 4th place 4x400m relay team which brings back
all four members including Sanders, junior Joe Crowley, and senior Nolan
Vollstedt. Sanders, Crowley, fellow
senior Josh Hagedorn, and junior Peyton Stephens all return off of last year’s
state qualifying Shuttle Hurdle relay squad. Sophomore Grant Tice fought a quad
injury during the 2014 season but finished the year strong with an 8th
place in the 100m dash at the State Meet.
Erb, senior Noah Smith, and senior Nathan Gerlach were members of the
Drake Relay qualifying 4x100m Relay team that gained valuable experience on the
Blue Oval.
Other returning letter-winners include seniors Luke Oja, KC McMullen (missed all of 2014 due to injury), Trevor Carra, and Chad Carter. Other returning junior letter-winners returning are Luke Sinclair, Chase Shannahan, Kire Seskis, Andrew Hill, and Brian Robertson along with returning sophomores JJ Orput and Dallas Wright. The Wildcats will also look to some new faces to help build depth and balance.
With 86 student-athletes on the squad this year, the Wildcats will look to improve throughout the season while performing their best late in the year. The Cats will take a partial squad to both the ISU Indoor Meet on 3/17 and the Central College Indoor Meet on 3/20 to help prepare for our outdoor season. The team’s first outdoor meet will be held on 3/24 at Simpson College.

Other returning junior letter-winners returning are Luke Sinclair, Chase Shannahan, Kire Seskis, Andrew Hill, and Brian Robertson along with returning sophomores JJ Orput and Dallas Wright. The Wildcats will also look to some new faces to help build depth and balance.
With 86 student-athletes on the squad this year, the Wildcats will look to improve throughout the season while performing their best late in the year. The Cats will take a partial squad to both the ISU Indoor Meet on 3/17 and the Central College Indoor Meet on 3/20 to help prepare for our outdoor season. The team’s first outdoor meet will be held on 3/24 at Simpson College.
