Cats Place 3rd in RRC Meet!
The CHS Boys Track and Field squad finished 3rd out of 8 teams in the annual Raccoon River Conference Meet held on Saturday 5/10. Boone repeated as team champs with 124 points followed by Carroll with 97 and Carlisle with 76. Bondurant-Farrar finished with 69 points while ADM scored 61 points to round out the top 5. The Cats finished in 6th a year ago with 37 team points.
The Cats crowned one individual champion in Tyrell Erb who gutted out a win in the 400m dash in 50.97 in his only race of the day due to a back injury. Junior Henry Sanders was right on his heels to finish 2nd in 51.31. The 4x110m shuttle hurdle relay squad was also Raccoon River Conference Champs in a time of 1:00.54. The quartet of sophomores Joe Crowley and Peyton Stephens and juniors Sanders and Josh Hagedorn currently have the 10th fastest time in 3A. Hagedorn also jumped a career best of 6'0 in the high jump to place 2nd. Sanders picked up a 3rd place finish in the 110m high hurdles in a season best time of 15.86. Sophomore Grant Tice captured another top 3 finish by placing 3rd in the 100m dash in a season best time of 11.48. The 4x100m relay team of senior Luke Murray, junior Noah Smith, junior Nathan Gerlach, and Tice finished 3rd in 45.34. Crowley finished third in the 400m hurdles in a season best time of 58.73.
Other Top 6 finishers included the 4x800m relay team of senior Taylor Hammond, juniors Chad Carter and Trevor Carra, and sophomore Luke Sinclair finished 4th in a season best time of 8:48.63. The 4x200m relay team of sophomores Chase Shannahan and Kire Seskis along with Smith and Gerlach finished 4th in 1:36.02. Carter picked up a 4th place finish in the 800m run in 2:11.56. Junior Luke Oja picked up a 5th place finish in the shot put with a heave of 42-7 while senior Danil Pestrikov finished 6th in the long jump at 18'8". Freshman JJ Orput finished 6th in the 3200m run in 10:55.69 and the 4x400m relay team of junior Nolan Vollstedt, Crowley, Hagedorn, and Stephens finished 6th in 3:45.09.

4 x 100M Relay Team Competes at Drake Relays
The Carlisle High School Boys 4x100 meter relay team competed at the Drake Relays on Friday, April 25th. Carlisle came in with the 61st fastest time in the state in all classes. The quartet of senior Luke Murray, junior Noah Smith, junior Nathan Gerlach, and junior Tyrell Erb ran their season best time of 44.42 to win their heat and place 35th out of the top 80 teams in the state overall. The top 10 fastest teams were 4A schools while Carlisle ran the 7th fastest time in Class 3A. The school record sits at 44.07 and was set in 2011 by Austin Lister, Brady Roland, Jeremy Flaws, and Nate Wilmes.
Varsity Boys Finish 2nd at Chariton Make-up Meet
The CHS varsity boys track and field squad finished 2nd at Chariton on May 6th with 133 team points despite missing four varsity regulars. Albia, who should finish in the top 5 in Class 2A at the state meet, won the meet with 156.5 points. Chariton finished 3rd with 108 points followed by Saydel with 87 points.
Junior Tyrell Erb ran his best 400 meter race of his career to finish first in a time of 49.72. The school record sits at 49.60 set by Bill Betterton in 1991 (converted to Fully Automated Timing ). Albia’s Alex Schultz pushed Erb the entire race to finish second in a loaded field in a time of 50.51. Erb wasn’t the only champion on the night as the Cats went 1st and 2nd in the long jump. Senior Danil Pestrikov jumped 19-00.25 to win the event only to have sophomore Kire Seskis on his heels to finish 2nd with a top jump of 18-11.25. The shuttle hurdle team of senior Jacob Klier, sophomore Joe Crowley, freshman Dallas Wright, and sophomore Peyton Stephens ran 1:04.84 to win. Senior Luke Murray and sophomore Grant Tice went 1st and 2nd in the 100m dash in times of 11.70 and 11.77 respectively.

The 4x800m relay team of Hammond, junior Chad Carter, junior Trevor Carra, and sophomore Luke Sinclair finished 2nd in 8:55.08 which was their second best time of the season. The 4x100m relay team of Murray, junior Noah Smith, junior Nathan Gerlach, and Erb finished 2nd in 44.72. The 4x400m relay team of Vollstedt, Crowley, Stephens, and Carra finished 2nd in 3:44.68. The 4x200m relay team of sophomore Chase Shannahan, Seskis, Smith, and Gerlach finished 3rd in 1:36.58. Junior Josh Hagedorn finished 3rd in the high jump (5-6) and the 200m dash (24.37).

Varsity and JV Squads Compete at DCG
The Carlisle boys varsity and partial junior varsity track squads competed at the DCG Invite on 5/2. The varsity finished 7th out of 12 teams with 56 points. The junior varsity portion of the meet was shortened and ran without several events and no team scores were compiled.
The 110m shuttle hurdle relay squad of sophomores Joe Crowley and Peyton Stephens along with juniors Josh Hagedorn and Henry Sanders won the event in 1:01.21. This is the fastest Carlisle time in this relay in several years and currently the 12th fastest in 3A. Junior Tyrell Erb remained undefeated in the 200m dash this season by winning the event 23.51.
The 4x400m relay team of Sanders, Crowley, junior Nolan Vollstedt, and junior Tyrell Erb finished third in 3:34.1. This was the fastest Wildcat time in over 6 years and currently the 13th fastest time in 3A. The 4x200m relay team of senior Luke Murray, junior Noah Smith, Sanders and Erb ran 1:34.69 to finish 3rd. Other top finishers included Crowley in the 400m dash where he finished 5th in 54.31. The 1600m distance medley relay team of sophomores Chase Shannahan and Brian Robertson partnered with seniors Danil Pestrikov and Taylor Hammond finished 5th in a season best time of 4:01.49. The 4x100m relay team of Murray, Smith, junior Nathan Gerlach, and sophomore Kire Seskis finished 5th in 46.51.
Other Top 8 finishes who earned team points included freshman JJ Orput in the 3200 (11:03.68) who finished 7th. The 4x800m relay team of sophomore Luke Sinclair, junior Chad Carter, Hammond, and junior Trevor Carra also finished 7th in 9:05.18. Smith finished 7th in the 200m dash in 24.90 and Vollstedt finished 8th in the 400 in 56.22.
The Wildcat JV team had several top finishes on the night in the very competitive field. Sophomore Grant Tice competed for the first time since April 8th due to injury to win the 100m dash in 11.79. Seskis finished second in 12.03. The JV 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400 meter relay squads also picked up wins. The 4x1 and 4x2 teams of freshman Gabe McCaughey, junior Brayden Burk, freshman Dallas Wright, and junior Andrew Smith ran 47.94 and 1:42.31 respectively. The jv 4x400m squad of Robertson, Stephens, Hagedorn, and Sinclair won the event in 3:57.27. The jv shuttle hurdle relay squad of Jacob Klier, Wright, freshman Max Evans, and freshman Andrew Black finished second in 1:11.06. Wright also picked up a 2nd place in the 400m hurdles running it for the first time in his young career in 1:06.62. Black finished 3rd in the 110m high hurdles in 19.29.
The varsity Cats have two more meets before the Raccoon River Conference meet on Saturday, May 10th where they will look to improve on last year’s 6th place finish. The JV concludes their season on 5/8 with a season ending meet at Grinnell.

Another 2nd Place Finish for CHS Varsity Boys
The CHS varsity boys track and field squad finished 2nd at a very competitive Ballard Classic Relays meet held on 4/22 in Huxley. The Cats finished with 90 points, just behind meet champions DCG (105) and ahead of Ballard, Gilbert, North Polk, Nevada, ADM, and Creston.
Junior Tyrell Erb continued his string of undefeated races in both the 200m dash and the 400m dash where he won gold in both. Erb raced to a 23.07 finish in the 200 while running his season best time in the 400 in 50.71. Erb’s 400m time was a Ballard Classic Relays record. Erb also anchored the 4x100m relay team (Luke Murray-Noah Smith-Nathan Gerlach-Erb) to a 2nd place finish in 44.69. Other winners on the night included junior Luke Oja in the shot put with a career best throw of 44 feet 11 inches. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Joe Crowley, Josh Hagedorn, Peyton Stephens, and Henry Sanders also won in a time of 1:02.74. Sanders found himself a winner in the 400m hurdles in a time of 57.96 while placing 2nd in the 110 high hurdles in 16.03. Crowley placed third in the 400m hurdles while the 4x200m relay team of Chase Shannahan, Smith, Gerlach, and Kire Seskis finished 2nd in 1:37.21.

Varsity Boys Finish 2nd at Chariton!
The CHS varsity boys track and field squad overcame the absence of six varsity performers due to illness and other scheduling conflicts to bring home the silver at the Chariton Charger Relays on a brisk and breezy night. The Cats finished in 2nd place with 115 points (Pella won the meet with 144 points) to finish ahead of Albia, Centerville, Creston, Mt. Ayr, Clarke of Osceola, and Chariton.
Henry Sanders had a great night with three first place finishes to go along with his second place finish in the high jump (5-9). Sanders won the 110m high hurdles in 16.08, won the 400m hurdles in 58.15, and lead off the first place winning shuttle hurdle team (Sanders-Peyton Stephens-Jacob Klier-Joe Crowley) in a team time of 64.84. Fellow junior Tyrell Erb remained undefeated in both the 200m dash and the 400m run as he captured titles in both events in 23.77 and 51.45 seconds respectively. Erb also anchored the winning 4x100m relay team (Luke Murray-Noah Smith-Nathan Gerlach-Erb) to a win in 45.57, where he received the baton in 4th place and ran a lightning quick 10.89 second leg to pass three competitors to the tape. Sanders and Erb combined to score 53 points for the squad!
Second place finishers on the night included sophomore Joe Crowley in the 400m hurdles in 59.85. Freshman JJ Orput gutted out a 3rd place finish in the 3200m run in a season best time of 10:52.32. This was the fastest time logged by a Wildcat runner in the 3200 since the 2010 season! The 4x200m relay squad of senior foreign exchange student Danil Pestrikov, junior Noah Smith, junior Nathan Gerlach, and sophomore Kire Seskis also raced to a 3rd place finish. The 4x400m relay squad of Pestrikov, junior Nolan Vollstedt, Crowley, and Stephens finished 4th as did Pestrikov in the long jump. Rounding out top 5 finishes on the night included junior Luka Oja in the shot put and the Distance Medley Relay team of Gerlach-Seskis-Stephens-Sinclair.
The Cats have a week off from meets to get healthy and rested before traveling to Ballard for the Bomber Relays on 4/22.

JV Competes at Johnston
On Tuesday, April 15th over 20 members of the Carlisle JV Boys Track and Field Squad traveled to Johnston to run in the 4-team JV meet against the host school, Southeast Polk, and Roland-Story.
Several individuals and relays placed in the top 6 at the meet. Junior Brayden Burk won the 200m dash while finishing 2nd in the 100m dash. He also ran on the 3rd place 4x200m relay team. Freshman Max Evans finished 2nd in the high jump. Freshman Gabe McCaughey finished 3rd in the 200 while junior Lukas Gronewold finished 5th in the same event. Gronewold also claimed 6th place in the 100m dash as did junior Craig Pote in the discus. Freshmen Claytin Piatt and Sam Martin finished 4th and 5th in the 400m dash.
The 4x200m relay team of McCaughey, Jordan Pierce, Zach Emberlin, and Anethon Thiravong finished 2nd, just ahead of the second 4x200m relay team of Max McCay, Evans, Burk, and Andrew Woock who finished in third. The shuttle hurdle relay team Evans, Emberlin, Thiravong, and Andrew Black finished 3rd as did the 4x100m relay team of McCaughey-Pierce-Emberlin-Thiravong. The 4x800m relay team of Max Becker, Trey Slaughter, Brandon Short, and Jared Uhlman finished in 4th place.
The JV is off until 4/21 when 9th and 10th graders will travel to WDM Valley.
Several individuals and relays placed in the top 6 at the meet. Junior Brayden Burk won the 200m dash while finishing 2nd in the 100m dash. He also ran on the 3rd place 4x200m relay team. Freshman Max Evans finished 2nd in the high jump. Freshman Gabe McCaughey finished 3rd in the 200 while junior Lukas Gronewold finished 5th in the same event. Gronewold also claimed 6th place in the 100m dash as did junior Craig Pote in the discus. Freshmen Claytin Piatt and Sam Martin finished 4th and 5th in the 400m dash.
The 4x200m relay team of McCaughey, Jordan Pierce, Zach Emberlin, and Anethon Thiravong finished 2nd, just ahead of the second 4x200m relay team of Max McCay, Evans, Burk, and Andrew Woock who finished in third. The shuttle hurdle relay team Evans, Emberlin, Thiravong, and Andrew Black finished 3rd as did the 4x100m relay team of McCaughey-Pierce-Emberlin-Thiravong. The 4x800m relay team of Max Becker, Trey Slaughter, Brandon Short, and Jared Uhlman finished in 4th place.
The JV is off until 4/21 when 9th and 10th graders will travel to WDM Valley.
Cats Win Team Title at Werling Relays!!
The CHS varsity boys track and field squad won the Werling Relays team championship by accumulating 173 team points to outdistance Indianola (139), Norwalk (124), and Knoxville (86) to capture the program’s first team title in many seasons. The Cats crowned numerous champions including Danil Pestrikov in the long jump, Josh Hagedorn in the high jump, the 4x800m relay team (Chad Carter, Luke Sinclair, Trevor Carr, Taylor Hammond), the 4x200m relay team (Chase Shannahan, Noah Smith, Nathan Gerlach, Kire Seskis), and Tyrell Erb in the 200m dash and 400m dash.
The Cats also scored valuable team points with several 2nd place efforts. Henry Sanders finished runner up in the high jump, Hagedorn in the long jump, Luke Murray in the 100m dash, and Sanders in the 400m low hurdles. CHS Boys Finish 3rd at ADM, 5 Points out of 1st!
The CHS boys track and field team just missed a team title on Tuesday 4/8 at the ADM Coed Relays. The Cats scored 93 points to finish in 3rd place out of 9 teams. Norwalk won the meet with 98 points while ADM finished 2nd with 95 points. Rounding out the boys teams were DCG, DSM North, Clarke, Van Meter, Winterset, and ADM JV.
Junior Tyrell Erb continued to add to his championship medal collection with wins in the 200m dash and the 800m run. He also finished 5th in the 100m dash. Junior Henry Sanders accounted for a large chunk of team points with a 4th place finish in the high jump with a career best jump of 5’10, 4th in the 110m high hurdles in 15.87 (also a career best), 4th place in the 800m run, and led off the 2nd place shuttle hurdle relay team (Sanders-Klier-Crowley-Stephens) with a great leg. Senior foreign exchange student Danil Pestrikov jumped to a 2nd place finish in the long jump with a season best jump of 19-01.25. Pestrikov also led off the 4th place distance medley relay (Pestrikov-Seskis-Carra-Sinclair) with a strong 200m leg. Junior Nolan Vollstedt collected a pair of 2nd place finishes in the 400m dash and the 4x400m relay (Vollstedt-Robertson-Stephens-Crowley).
Other Top 5 finishes for the Cats came included the 4x200m relay team of Luke Murray, Noah Smith, Chase Shannahan, and Nathan Gerlach who finished 3rd. The same combination of athletes finished 5th in the 4x100m relay in a time of 46.81. Junior Chad Carter finished 4th in the 3200m run in a time of 11:03.67. The sophomore duo of Joe Crowley and Peyton Stephens finished within .04 of one another to pick up a 4th place and 5th place finish.

The Carlisle boys track and field squad kicked off their outdoor season by running at the Simpson College Co-Ed meet on a beautiful Saturday afternoon on March 29th. Nine boys teams participated with Carlisle being the only 3A team in attendance. The Cats racked up 66 points and finished in 6th place behind WDM Valley, DSM Roosevelt, Ames, WDM Dowling Catholic, and Indianola.
Junior Tyrell Erb brought home two championship medals by winning the 200m dash in a time of 23.17 while he also collected the gold in the 400m dash in a time of 51.32. Erb also anchored the team's 3rd place 4x400m relay team (along with other members Henry Sanders, Peyton Stephens, and Noah Smith) in a time of 3:35.65. Sanders placed 2nd in the 400m low hurdles in a career best time of 58.65 while also placing 6th in the 110m high hurdles with another career best time of 16.29. Sophomore Peyton Stephens collected a 3rd place finish in the 400m low hurdles in 1:00.59. Junior Josh Hagedorn tied for 3rd in the high jump, tying his season best jump of 2013 by clearing 5'10.

Erb and Tice Crowned at Champs at Central Indoor
The CHS varsity boys track team took just over half of the varsity squad to the Central Indoor Meet held on 3/21 in Pella. The 28 team meet was run on a 200m indoor track at Kuyper Fieldhouse on the Central College campus.
Junior Tyrell Erb won the 200 meter championship in 23.47 seconds defeating the other 155 runners. Sophomore Grant Tice tied for first place out of 214 athletes in the 55 meter dash in 6.45 seconds. Erb and Tice highlighted a strong performance for the boys track team. Junior Henry Sanders had a solid day where he placed 3rd out of 76 in the 400 meter dash (54.44 seconds) while he also finished 8th out of 46 in the high jump (5’8”) and 9th out of 39 in the 55 meter high hurdles (8.19 seconds).
Six other Wildcats finished in the top 50 in the 55m dash: Erb 6th (6.60), Noah Smith 13th (6.71), Chase Shannahan 25th (6.82), while Kire Seskis and Luke Murray tied for 39th (6.90). Shannahan placed 17th out of 156 in the 200m dash (24.92) while Smith finished 20th (24.98), Murray 39th (25.82), and Seskis 50th (26.06). Senior Danil Pestrikov improved in the long jump where he finished 11th out of 55 with a season best jump of 18’03.5”. Distance runner Chad Carter continued to make solid improvements in his junior campaign with two top 25 finishes. Carter ran 2:18.31 in the 800 to finish 18th out of 60 while also rendering a 22nd place finish (out of 54) in the 1600 coming in with a time of 5:09.55. Other top finishers for the Wildcats included senior Jacob Klier finishing 29th in the 55m high hurdles while Nate Guenther (36’1”) finished 29th out of 83 in the shot put. The 4x200 meter relay team of Nathan Gerlach, Smith, Seskis, and Tice finished 14th out of 49 overall.

7 Top 50 Finishes for Cats at ISU Indoor Meet!
Several members of the Carlisle High School boys varsity track and field team competed at the 2014 ISU High School Boys Track meet on March 18th. Despite limited facilities, outdoor practice opportunities, and missing over half of the varsity squad due to Spring Break conflicts; the 14 participants had a strong showing. This meet had over 90 teams participating from the largest in the state (West Des Moines Valley) clear down the line to Class 1A competitors from the likes of Southeast Warren and Lenox.
Junior Tyrell Erb, who is a two time state qualifier, placed 3rd out of 118 runners in the 400 meter dash where he finished in 52.08 seconds. The winner and runner up were both from 4A schools (Cedar Falls and Waukee). Sophomore Grant Tice had the Wildcats second highest finish where he crossed the line in the 60 meter dash in 7.37 seconds. Tice finished 17th out of 184 competitors in this highly competitive event.
Junior Luke Oja also had a top 25 finish in the shop put where he launched a throw of 42’ 9” to finish 24th out of 95 competitors. This beat his personal best throw in 2013 by almost 33 inches. Junior Chad Carter showed grit and determination in the 3200 meter run by crossing the tape in 38th place out of 81 competitors in a time of 11:12.30. The Cats also had a pair of long jumpers finish in the top 50 where senior Danil Pestrikov and junior Noah Smith finished 37th and 39th in the long jump with leaps of 17’10.25” and 17’10” respectively. Rounding out Top 50 finishes was junior Nolan Vollstedt with his 40th place finish (out of 118 competitors) in the 400 meter dash in a time of 55.67.

The Cats also ran a second 4 x 100 meter relay squad that finished 40th out of 73 teams in 48.21 seconds (Shannahan, Murray, junior Brayden Burk, and Utter). The team of sophomore Chase Shannahan, Gerlach, Smith, and Becker teamed together to round out the event list in the Distance Medley Relay by finishing in 4:23.67.
