Erb wins 400, qualifies for state meet!
Sophomore Tyrell Erb won the 400 meter dash in a time of 50.9 seconds in the Class 3A District Meet held at Winterset on 5/9/13. The top two place-winners in each event along with the remaining eight best times/distances qualify for the Iowa Boys State Track and Field Meet held on May 16th-May 18th. This is the second consecutive year Erb has qualified in the 400. The Class 3A Boys 400 meter dash is set to be held on Thursday, May 16th at 7:20pm.
Other top finishers for the Wildcats included a third place finish in the 110 meter shuttle hurdle relay (Henry Sanders, Jacob Klier, Josh Hagedorn, and Austin Ruppert) in a time of 63.27. The 4 x 100 meter relay team (KC McMullen, Austin Ruppert, Nathan Gerlach, and Erb) also finished third in a time of 46.27 seconds. Sanders finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles as did the 4 x 200 meter relay team (McMullen, Dillon, Gerlach, Ruppert). The 1600 meter medley team made up of all freshmen (Chase Shannahan, Grant Tice, Joe Crowley, and Luke Sinclair) finished fifth. Sophomore Luke Oja finished sixth in the shot put (season best throw of 40’2) while Hagedorn soared 18’8 ¾” in the long jump to place sixth. The 4 x 800 meter relay team (Taylor Hammond, Trevor Carra, Vinny Wilcox, and Sinclair) finished sixth as did Chad Carter in the 3200 meter run. Hammond also placed sixth in the 1600 meter run as did the 4 x 400 meter relay squad (Sanders, Nolan Vollstedt, Justin Dillon, and Erb). The Cats finished 6th overall with 58 points.

Carlisle finishes 6th at Raccoon River Conference Meet
Led by sophomore Ty Erb, who was crowned conference champion in the 400 meter dash in a time of 50.77, the CHS Varsity Boys Track team finished 6th overall with 37 points in the annual conference meet that was postponed from Saturday and held at Carlisle. With perfect running conditions on the night, the Cats ran season best times in five out of six relay events and had 11 season best distances/times in individual events.
Erb also finished third in the 400 meter hurdles (season best time of 58.66), anchored the 4 x 100 meter relay team to a 5th place finish (season best time of 45.52), and ran a fantastic anchor on the 4 x 400 meter relay team for a come-from-behind-leaning 3rd place finish (season best time of 3:36.96). Other members of the 4x400 team were sophomores Henry Sanders and Nolan Vollstedt along with senior Justin Dillon. The 4 x 100 meter relay team was Erb, sophmores KC McMullen and Nathan Gerlach, along with senior Austin Ruppert.
Fellow sophomores Josh Hagedorn and Henry Sanders also scored valuable points for the Cats as Hagedorn high-jumped a season best 5'10 to place 5th. Hagedorn also placed 7th in the long jump with his personal best jump of 18'8. Hagedorn and Sanders teamed up on the 4th place 110 meter shuttle hurdle relay (along with Ruppert and junior Jacob Klier) to place 4th in a time of 1:03.74. Sanders also ran his best time ever in the 110 meter high hurdles to finish 6th in 16.62 seconds along with running a stellar lead off leg on the third place 4x400 relay squad. To cap off his all-conference performance, Sanders placed 4th in the 400 meter hurdles in 59.95 seconds. Sophomore Chad Carter rounded out the top-six scoring for the Cats by finishing 6th in the 3200 meter run in a time of 11:02.3. This beat Carter's best time of the season by nearly five seconds.
Other notables on the evening were junior Joey Hinds throwing a season best of 112'8 1/4" in the discus for 7th place, the 4 x 200 meter relay team of McMullen, Dillon, Gerlach, and Ruppert in a season best time of 1:36.99 (to finish 7th). Vollstedt ran his best 400 meter dash of the season in 56.2 to finish 9th while McMullen ran his best time of 24.35 in the 200 meter dash to finish 8th. The 4 x 800 meter relay squad of juniors Taylor Hammond and Vinny Wilcox along with sophomore Trevor Carra and Luke Sinclair shaved nearly 21 seconds off their best time on the season to finish 8th. Cats Place 6th at PCM Relays
The Carlisle varsity boys track squad competed on 4/25 at PCM in their first outdoor meet in nine days due to the weather. The Cats finished in 6th place with 61 points.
Ty Erb ran in three events finishing 1st in the 400, 2nd in the 400 hurdles, and anchoring the 4x100 meter relay team to a third place finish. Erb went 51.45 in the 400 and 59.63 in the 400 hurdles. The 4x1 team ran a season best time of 45.98 to finish third. Other members of this relay were fellow sophomore KC McMullen, senior Austin Ruppert, and freshman Chase Shannahan.
Junior distance runner Taylor Hammond ran a career best 4:56.35 in the 1600 to finish third. Hammond also ran on the 6th place 4x800 meter relay squad (along with junior Vinny Wilcox, sophomore Trevor Carra, and freshman Luke Sinclair) that finished in 9:25.66. Sophomore Henry Sanders finished 4th in the 400 hurdles in 60.18 and 4th in the 110 Meter High Hurdles in 17.67.

Varsity Boys Compete at Ballard Classic Relays
The Carlisle high school boys track team finished seventh at the Ballard Classic Relays on April 16th. Sophomore Henry Sanders ran his season-best time in the 400 hurdles to finish second. His time of 59.54 outdistanced fifth place finisher Tyrell Erb who crossed the line in 63.91 seconds. Sanders also grabbed a sixth place in the 110 High Hurdles running a season best time of 17.37. Henry also picked up two fifth place finishes on the Shuttle Hurdle Relay squad and 4 x 400 meter relay squad. Members of the Shuttle Hurdle were Jacob Klier, Josh Hagedorn, and Austin Ruppert. The 4 x 400 meter relay team consisted of sophomores Nolan Vollstedt and Noah Smith along with freshman Chase Shannahan.
Along with Erb’s fifth place finish in the 110 high hurdles, he also finished third in the 400 and sixth in the 100 meter dash. The 4 x 200 meter relay team (Ruppert, Shannahan, Dillon, and KC McMullen) finished 3rd on the chilly and windy evening in Huxley. The Carlisle high school boys track team accumulated 78 ½ points en route to a 5th place finish at the Charger Relays on Tuesday, April 9th. The Cats had one 1st place finish, one 2nd place finish, two 3rd place finishers, two 4th place finishers, and four 5th place finishes.

Cats Run First Outdoor Meet of the Season @ Norwalk
After several weeks of practice the Carlisle High School boys track team was finally able to compete in its first outdoor meet of the season at Norwalk on April 8th. The Cats last competed on March 12th at an indoor meet at Iowa State University.
Led by sophomore Ty Erb’s four top-four finishes, the Cats finished in 8th place in the heavily competitive meet with 56 points. Erb scored 22.5 points on the evening. Running his first ever 400 meter low hurdle race, Erb crossed the finish line in first place in a time of 59.29. He also placed third in the 100 with a time of 11.71 as well as finishing fourth in the 400 in 51.35 seconds. He also ran the anchor leg of the 4 x 100 meter relay team which finished in third place with a time of 46.53 seconds. Other members of the 4 x 100 team include sophomore KC McMullen and seniors Austin Ruppert and Justin Dillon.

CHS Varsity Boys Compete at ISU Indoor
Several members of the Carlisle High School boys track team competed at the 2013 ISU High School Boys Track meet on March 12th. Despite very limited practice, the team came away with two Top 30 performances.
Sophomore Tyrell Erb placed 7th out of 138 runners in the 400 meter dash where he finished in 52.28 seconds. Sophomore Josh Hagedorn finished 29th out of 87 competitors in the high jump where he cleared 5’8”. This matched his best jump from his freshman season.
Other competitors for the Cats included freshmen Chase Shannahan, sophomore Noah Smith, and senior Austin Ruppert in the 60 meter dash. Shannahan finished 111th out of 194 runners in a time of 7.77 seconds. Ruppert finished in 7.93 seconds while Smith was clocked in 7.97 seconds. Senior Justin Dillon finished 79th in the 400 meter dash in a time of 57.23 seconds. Chad Carter and Taylor Hammond both competed in the 1,600 for Carlisle where they finished 82nd and 85th respectively out of 126 runners. Carter finished in 5:23.13 while Hammond’s time was 5:27.11. Junior Henry Sanders competed in the high jump for the first time in his high school career where he cleared 5’4”. Senior Dan Hupke finished 61st out of 112 competitors in the shot put with a toss of 39’9 ¾”. Sophomore Luke Oja also competed in the shot put with his best throw being 38’2 ½”.
The Wildcats also had two relay teams compete at ISU. The 4 x 100 relay team (Joe Crowley, Smith, Hagedorn, Sanders) finished 52nd out of 94 teams in a time of 48.76 seconds. Ruppert, Sanders, Dillon, and Erb teamed up to compete in the Distance Medley Relay (200-200-400-800) where they finished 34th out of 69 teams with a time of 4:00.26.

Junior Henry Sanders competed in the high jump for the first time in his high school career where he cleared 5’4”. Senior Dan Hupke finished 61st out of 112 competitors in the shot put with a toss of 39’9 ¾”. Sophomore Luke Oja also competed in the shot put with his best throw being 38’2 ½”.
The Wildcats also had two relay teams compete at ISU. The 4 x 100 relay team (Joe Crowley, Smith, Hagedorn, Sanders) finished 52nd out of 94 teams in a time of 48.76 seconds. Ruppert, Sanders, Dillon, and Erb teamed up to compete in the Distance Medley Relay (200-200-400-800) where they finished 34th out of 69 teams with a time of 4:00.26.
